Development of Transgenic Insect Resistant Indian Cultivars of Chickpea
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lepidopteran types of podborer and homopteran aphid insects are damaging pests of chickpea. CryIAc toxins are established control agents for podborers but do not or only slightly affect homopteran (sucking) insects. However, certain plant lectins are known for their power of killing aphids. Bioassay experiments carried out in our laboratory with lectins isolated from garlic leaves have already shown a detrimental effect on aphids. Aphids such as Aphis craccivora and Myzus persicae are also known to transmit viruses (CMV and Potyviruses) to the host plant, in particular to chickpea. It is assumed that not only the aphid attack itself but the virus infection represent additive problems for the plant.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most important crops in the world. After bean and pea, chickpea is the most important cold season legume. Weeds are one of the most important threats to chickpea production worldwide. Due to the sensitivity of chickpea to herbicides, the majority of herbicides are used pre-emergence and the use of post-emergence herbicides is limited, and therefore we...
متن کاملGene Expression Profiling during Wilting in Chickpea Caused by Fusarium oxysporum F. sp. Ciceri
Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri (Foc), one of the most important fungal pathogen of chickpea, is a constant threat to this crop plant. In the present study gene expression analysis of chickpea roots during Foc infection was performed using various approaches. cDNAs derived from total mRNA during infection process of susceptible (JG62) and resistant (Digvijay) cultivars, were amplified using ra...
